Training and Development
Case Study
When the training budget was quite limited for a high-tech company, it was decided to run a series of Lunch and Learns rather than provide full-day training courses. An email was issued to managers and employees asking for topics that may be of interest. The short-list was validated by some senior managers – the most simple and quick form of training needs analysis!
The first wave of sessions included topics about personal effectiveness, such as “A Quick Guide to Coaching”, “How to Help You Manage Change”, “How to Manage Your Time More Effectively” and “An Introduction to Performance Reviews”.
Feedback from learners was very positive with specific observation being made that some of the tools shared could equally apply to their home life. Indeed, more advanced levels of sessions were requested in some areas, such as coaching, as the individuals had started to see real results from the introductory sessions. They wished to deepen their learning and enhance their coaching practices.
A wealth of training material is available online these days making it easy for learners to choose the method and channel that works best for them. As an HR Consultant, the art of effective training is making it real by helping connections to be made and ensuring a commitment to action is made.
There is also the area of mandatory training – PeopleStance can assist with this. For example, Anti-Bribery & Corruption or Data Protection training may be required.
And of course the whole area of induction is very important, especially after what can often be a lengthy and difficult hiring process. A mix of buddies, a more formal induction programme and a welcome pack is typically recommended; however, the specific recommendation will need to match your company culture.
